Do You Play Rock, Paper, Scissors With Your Meals?

“Rock, paper, scissors” also known as “scissors, paper, stone”

when was the last time you played it?

Did you know you could play a similar game when it comes to your meal preparation?

    I know

We tell the kids not to play with their food at the dinner table and yet when we were babies and needed to be fed ….

Choo choo! open wide the train is going in to the tunnel

When I talk to my clients and patients about portion sizes I use what I call the “Rock, paper, scissor" method to show them the right amount of food that should be on their plate..

    It’s a simple method

    For women it is

    • 1 palm (of your hand) of a protein dense food per meal
    • 1 cupped handful of carb dense food with most meals
    • 1 fist full of vegetables with each meal
    • 1 entire thumb of fat dense food with most meals

    For men it is

    • 2 palms of a protein dense food per meal
    • 2 cupped handfuls of carb dense food with most meals
    • 2 fist full of vegetables with each meal
    • 2 entire thumbs of fat dense food with most meals

No need to use scales or measuring cups. No calculators or smartphones

    Just palm, cupped, fist, thumb

    Or

    “Rock, paper, scissors, lizard,

    And spock”!
